House Lights Privacy Policy

House Lights is an app made by TechSystems23 LLC (“we”, “us”). It controls WLED lighting controllers on your home network. This policy explains what the app uses, where it goes, and what we see. The short version is that we don’t collect any information about you. The app has no accounts, ads, tracking or analytics.
What the app talks to
The app communicates with the lighting controller you connect it to, over your own Wi-Fi network. If you add an installer, it also loads your installer’s logo from their website and, about once a day, reads the public list of current installers on techsystems23.com. These requests don’t include any information about you, your home or your lights. The app does not send your information to us or to any other company.
What the app stores, and where
On your phone:
- the network addresses of your lighting controllers
- any house photos you add, and the light lines you trace on them
- your installer’s details, if you add them
- your schedules, favorites, saved colors and app settings, such as music mode choices and which tips you’ve already seen
On your lighting controller (because the controller needs them to run the lights when the app is closed):
- your saved looks and playlists
- the timers that turn your lights on and off
- the location you enter for sunrise and sunset times
This information stays on your devices. We never receive it. If you make a backup file, it is saved where you choose and is not sent to us.
Photos
If you add a photo of your house, you choose it yourself. It is saved in the app’s storage on your phone so the preview can show your lights on it. It is not uploaded to your controller, to us, or to any online service. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
Microphone
Music mode can use your phone’s microphone so the lights react to sound. The microphone is only used while you have music mode turned on. The sound is analyzed on your phone in real time, and only the resulting light colors are sent to your controller. Audio is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
Camera and installer details
If your lights were installed by a company, you can scan their QR code. The camera is only used while you scan; the picture is read on your phone and never saved or sent. The installer details from the code (name, phone, email, website, logo link and a short note) are saved on your phone. To show your installer’s logo, the app loads the logo image from the installer’s own website. Installer codes are issued by TechSystems23 to companies in the House Lights installer program. The installer’s details come from that public list, which the app checks is genuine on your phone, and the app hides an installer’s details if they leave the program. We never receive any of your information.
Security
WLED controllers communicate on your local network without encryption. Anyone on your Wi-Fi may be able to see or change your lights. Keep your Wi-Fi password-protected, and don’t expose your controller to the internet.
Not affiliated with WLED
House Lights works with WLED controllers but is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the WLED project.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version on this page and update the effective date above.
